Quality Time with Mimi

Monday, August 22, 2011

A week and a half after Nana and Papa left us here in NC, Mimi came for her first visit! (We are hoping that her visits will be a bit more frequent now that we are even farther away.) Her visit was a low key one overall. A little "sightseeing" and a whole lot of Jonah and Mimi time!

Jonah quickly got used to Mimi being around and harassed her to play with him every waking moment (he literally woke her up every morning to play). In his defense, Mimi didn't really need much coercing. The weather was really nice while she was here so we spent a lot of time outside playing with chalk, or "hawk" as Jonah calls it.

Andrew made a house for Jonah out of a big cardboard box. We thought it was a good idea for Jonah to spruce the place up, inside and out.

Blowing bubbles is a major pastime for us these days as well. Mimi was enlisted to blow bubbles and was also commanded to sit and watch as "baby" (how Jonah refers to himself) blew some.

In the end, the two of them didn't care if the weather was good or bad, as long as they were together! (Here they are watching a thunder storm out Mimi's window. Precious moment.)

How We Spend Our Days

So it kind of goes without saying that Jonah is a big fan of having a bigger house. There is soooo much more room to play and so much more to explore!! Though he has his own playroom (That sounds so decadent sometimes. Like he should have his own stable with a pony too.) he truly utilizes all of the room that this house has to offer.

He colors a lot these days, both with crayons and with chalk. Not surprisingly he often "writes" letters when he is coloring (his obsession with letters continues). He will take his coloring pad with him anywhere in the house and asks to go outside to play with "hawk" (chalk) constantly.

We got Jonah a rug for his playroom that looks like the map of a town. He plays on that a lot with his trains and cars.

Stacking blocks and putting things in neat rows continues to be a fun pastime too. He REALLY loves his Legos. Having Daddy make them into 3D letters is the end-all-be-all. (I have a really cute photo of Jonah playing with his Legos "au-natural" but I will spare him the future embarrassment this one time.)

Our house has a great porch that wraps around from the front to the side. It is fenced in on the side (which provides more great area to play... pictures from around there to be posted later) but is open in the front of the house. Sometimes Jonah likes to just sit on the front porch and look around, point out bees on the flowers and swing his legs back and forth off the side. Taking a few letters outside to build words while you are there never hurts either.
